Patients who are on an oral anticoagulant for the treatment of DVT/PE, atrial fibrillation, heart valve replacement or other medically necessary indication should be monitored regularly to ensure safe and therapeutic levels of anticoagulation. This is measure with a finger prick blood test called a PT/INR. Your doctor will make any necessary changes to your coumadin dose based on the results of this test.
